STREET-ART BRAZIL

Install the free STREET-ART BRAZIL App on your iPhone, and discover the fascinating world of Brazilian graffiti art. The App navigates you in German or English to all of the works specially created in downtown Frankfurt by visiting street artists. And it offers you unique insights into the Brazilian graffiti community – in the form of films, photos and background texts.

At the invitation of the SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE FRANKFURT, 11 artists and artist groups from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo present their work at 14 locations in Frankfurt. Graffiti is ubiquitous in Brazilian megacities, particularly São Paulo. Initially influenced by American “style writing”, the Brazilian street art scene developed a clear visual idiom of its own in the 1980s. Unlike many other countries (graffiti counts as a criminal offence all over the world), in Brazil this art genre is held in great esteem. US, Japanese and African influences blend with elements of age-old indigenous traditions and modern Brazilian culture, producing completely unexpected and highly expressive images.

The app for the exhibition gives you a lively idea of the original significance and experience of Brazilian street art.

LOCATIONS IN FRANKFURT

The built-in GPS function guides you to the 14 locations in Frankfurt’s city centre. Picture galleries, information and artist interviews can be accessed for each piece of street art, which includes the floor area of Frankfurt Hauptwache, the glass portal of the Deutsche Bank AG tower buildings, the façade of the old police headquarters and a complete underground train.

DOWNLOADING VIDEOS AND PICTURES

There are videos, photo galleries and selected Brazilian music introducing each artist. The recordings originated from Brazil, on the street or in the “Grafiteiros” studios. Texts on the exhibition and the artists round out the audio-visual contents. In addition, a special “making-of” film documents the elaborate production process of the Frankfurt works. In order to download videos and pictures, simply click the button DOWNLOADS & UPDATES in the App. You can watch videos also directly via YouTube link.
